VIKTORIA MODESTA

The Bionic Pop Artist Redefining Beauty

Viktoria Modesta is a self-described bionic pop artist, creative director, and champion of future innovations. According to the MIT Media Lab, where she has been a Fellow since 2017: “Her work explores modern identity through performance, fashion, avant-garde visuals, technology and science.” She considers herself a “sci-fi in real life” artist and creative leader in the post-disability community. Born in the former USSR (now Latvia), Viktoria underwent an elective amputation at age 20 due to extensive injuries to her leg during birth. That harrowing experience led her to explore how technology will impact our future. Former President Barack Obama even profiled her approach to identity through tech for his guest-edited issue of WIRED, and her life story has been recognized worldwide as a testament to human strength.

Projects

Viktoria is best known for her future-forward performances across the globe, including Art Basel Miami Beach and her residency at the Crazy Horse Paris cabaret. Her work with brands spans from ambassadorships to fully involved art direction, strategy and production design via her co-founded creative studio Modestar, which specializes in future-focused narratives. She’s an active member of the Metavisionaries’ community of artists, scientists and entrepreneurs whose artwork was on display for the first art show aboard the International Space Station. In the spirit of their innovations and aesthetics, Rolls Royce named Viktoria as a collaborator in 2019. She produced a short film for the luxury automaker showcasing how human and tech-power collides. Additionally, Viktoria worked on Astro Access, a project dedicated to promoting disability inclusion in space, in which she wore a microgravity-adapted prosthetic limb to explore augmented form and movement.
