The Producer Who Always Brings the Party
Joe Silberzweig first met Adam Richman at SFX Entertainment, while working on the launch of electronic music festival TomorrowWorld. After hitting it off with Shaquille O’Neal while booking him to DJ, the pair realized their special sauce: partnering and collaborating with athletes and celebrities to throw tailormade dream events — and, of course, getting them to invite all of their famous friends to party. The result: New York-based entertainment company Medium Rare, named after how Joe and Adam like their steak. Big name clients and well-known brands (from Virgin Voyages to Red Bull) are clamoring to work with the pair, who hosted four events at the 2023 Super Bowl alone. The company, which thrives on co-creating events tailored to their athlete and celebrity hosts in a 50-50 joint venture, now has its sights set on Formula 1, the 2026 FIFA World Cup and the 2028 LA Olympics. No wonder they were named to the Forbes “30 Under 30” list. In April 2024, Medium Rare received an investment from Palm Tree Crew that values the company at $50 million.
Projects
At the first Shaq’s Fun House during Miami Music Week in 2018, Shaq (AKA DJ Diesel), played some of his favorite songs across genres, surrounded by stilt walkers, flamethrowers, carnival rides and over-the-top attractions. But it was the dance-off between Shaq and then-New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski — which culminated with a shirtless 6-foot-6 Gronk jumping on the 7-foot-1 Shaq’s shoulders — that propelled Joe and Adam into the big time. The two didn’t rest on their laurels, following that success with Gronk Beach, a day-time musical festival curated by Gronkowski. Their latest collaboration is with celebrity chef Guy Fieri, who not only hosted Flavortown Tailgate for the 2023 Super Bowl, but also hand-selected all the vendors.
